The Indonesian President, Dr Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, has joined Prime Milister Julia Gillard for a tour of the deployable hospital operated by the National Critical Care and Trauma Response Centre (NCCTRC) in Darwin as part of the annual Indonesian/Australian leaders talks.
The intent of the tour was to highlight the increased level of cooperation between the two countries in providing a rapid deployable medical facility to assist during natural disasters throughout the Asia/Pacific Region.
OPEC Systems is proud to have supplied the four shelter hospital system, manufactured in the United States by Blu-Med, as the basis for the capability and continues to support the NCCTRC through training and maintenance.

About the NCCTRC

The National Critical Care and Trauma Response Centre is a key element of the Australian Government’s disaster and emergency medical response to incidents of national and international significance.
In 2005 the Australian Government funded the establishment of the National Critical Care and Trauma Response Centre (NCCTRC) following the Bali 1 and 2 Responses.
The function of the NCCTRC is to ensure enhanced surge capacity for Royal Darwin Hospital to provide a rapid response in the event of a mass casualty incident in the region.
The National Critical Care and Trauma Response Centre has responded to incidents in 2005, 2006, 2008 and 2009 and 2010. These have been respectively the second Bali Bombing, East Timor Unrest, East Timor Presidential assassination attempt, the Ashmore Reef Siev 36 incident and the Pakistan floods. In 2011, the NCCTRC deployed a medical team to provide support for the annual Tour de Timor.
NCCTRC assets have also been used in response to local and regional disasters such as Cyclone Helen and the Ghan derailment.
